A new swimming pool could be built in Pitsea as part of the expansion of the Eversley leisure center

An Essex council has revealed what a new swimming pool for a leisure center in Pitsea could look like – if plans continue.

Basildon Council is preparing a planning application to expand the Eversley Leisure Center on Crest Avenue to include a new 25-meter four-lane swimming pool.

The designs were developed by Calfordseaden Architects and have been the subject of public consultation.

The council said the pool was part of a long-term plan to improve health and fitness facilities in the Borough of Basildon, and that it would be used for public exercise as well as for children. school groups.

Calfordseaden said they want to create a “modern and attractive facility” while being “environmentally conscious” in their designs.

The recreation center currently has an indoor gym, gymnasium, treatment rooms, lighted artificial turf pitch and a 65-station gym.

In its design and access statement on the council’s website, the architects said: “There is currently no swimming in the immediate vicinity, and following a local needs report in 2019 Eversley Leisure Center has been found to be well positioned to provide this provision.

“The existing building was constructed in 1970 and was refurbished to a high standard in 2017. Externally, the building has not been significantly enlarged or altered, and although well maintained, it is believed that a modern addition will help reinvigorate the site.

“The new swimming pool is connected to the existing center by a reconfigured internal corridor, which means that the reception of the existing center can continue to serve both facilities.”

The new pool would be built on the south side of the center and would contain the 25-meter four-lane pool with a maximum depth of 1.2 meters, with a spectator area on one side.

The changing rooms would include two collective changing rooms suitable for schools, single and double changing rooms, family changing rooms and accessible changing rooms.

There would also be toilets and showers. In total, the pool could accommodate 70 swimmers, plus spectators, and would be wheelchair accessible.

Calfordseaden added: “The new building will be supported by 50 additional parking spaces arranged around a new parking lot in front of the swimming pool.

“It will also provide maintenance access around the new building and provide vehicle access to the existing terrain all seasons. Improvements will also be made through the provision of recharges for electric vehicles and mobility, and better parking for bicycles.

“The new pool building will be modern in appearance, unlike the existing sports center. It will have clean lines, simple details and flat roofs.”

The consultation ends Friday, December 10, with comments taken into account for the final planning request.
