Bowers Pool in Washoe Valley reopens just in time for summer

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. (KOLO) — Just in time for summer, Bowers Pool will reopen June 11 and feature new amenities.

“We have done a new plaster over the entire pool, we have created a more shallow area in the shallow end for swimming lessons for our small children, we have a new accessible ramp entering the pool from the shallow end , we also redid the diving board, and are excited to introduce a wading pool, replacing the old wading pool,” said Washoe County Parks Superintendent Colleen Wallace-Barnum.

The pool was closed in 2010 due to the economic recession, and after three years of closure, the William N. Pennington Foundation began repairing the pool for the community.

Now, 10 years later, after receiving five grants totaling more than $1.5 million from the William N. Pennington Foundation, Washoe County is poised to make Bowers Pool a premier aquatic destination.

“We have created a new deck space, where we have 2 bookable deck pavilions, we are now permitted to sell some concessions to the public…so we are really excited to see the changes here at Bowers Pool and we could’ I can’t be happier to have something high-end for our community,” Wallace-Barnum said.

The pool will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer.

The swimming pool is on the site of the Bowers Mansion. Bowers Mansion tours are currently offered on weekends and holidays, and will run four days a week from June 13 to August 12. Tours run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every hour, every hour, Friday through Monday.
