Bromley Mountain ski resort completes solar installation – pv magazine USA

The solar panel advances sustainability initiatives in Sun Mountain, Vermont.

A solar installation was recently completed in Sun Mountain, Vermont, where Bromley Mountain Resort is located. Nicknamed Sun Mountain because it’s one of Vermont’s only south-facing ski areas, Bromley owners see it as one more step in their sustainability plan.

The solar project was jointly developed by Burlington, Encore Renewable Energy and Vermont-based Tangent Energy Solutions and is located across from the ski resort on land owned by the ski resort. The 615 kWdc solar project will produce enough electricity to power around 70 households and offset the emissions of 120 passenger vehicles per year. What is not used by the station all year round will be reintegrated into the network for use by the city of Peru and its surroundings.

“As a longtime skier and winter sports enthusiast, I have seen first-hand the impact of climate change on winter here in Vermont. It’s inspiring to see and support Bromley’s leadership in implementing energy conservation and carbon reduction measures, ”said Chad Farrell, Founder and CEO of Encore Renewable Energy.

Sunwealth, one of Encore’s strategic partners, funded the project and will own and operate it for the life of the system. This project is the 6th collaborative effort between the two companies, which has resulted in more than $ 5 million in economic activity in Vermont.

“Our new solar panel allows Sun Mountain to generate clean, affordable, locally sourced energy from the sun and one more thing to celebrate this holiday season,” added Bill Cairns, President / CEO of Bromley Mountain Resort.

For twenty years, Bromley Mountain has demonstrated a strong commitment to energy conservation through green initiatives, starting with energy efficient snow cannons, launching a “snow index”. Unique, the purchase of a hybrid snow cart and Piston Bully. The basic roof lighting has been switched to all LED, insulation has been added and a new heat pump helps reduce the amount of oil used for heating. In 2017, Bromley Mountain won an Energy Leadership Award from Efficiency Vermont.
