Hey Insiders, Kara here! I wanted to chat with you about a few things about Disney resorts! I know some people choose to stay elsewhere when visiting the parks, but I am definitely NOT one of those people! I’ve been visiting Walt Disney World for years, however, this year takes the cake; Since joining TKI, I’ve been to the parks 9 times so far this year, with trip #10 just a few weeks away! As a frequent guest at Walt Disney World resorts, I’m very used to not only the level of service, but also the convenience of staying on Disney property! On a recent trip, I discovered how different (and complicated!) it is to stay off the property and try to get to and from the park each day! (without a car, of course!) The hotel had such a nightmarish shuttle situation, I opted to pay an Uber to get to the park instead! Disney makes everything so simple and seamless, I just can’t imagine staying anywhere else! Let me tell you why…

Contemporary Disney Hotel

First of all, Transportation. Like I said, unless you have a car (and are willing to pay to park!), there’s no transportation like Disney transportation. No reservations are required to use the buses, they run constantly all day and are free for resort guests. (The same goes for guests staying at resorts where the skyliner or monorail is available!) If you plan to attend an after-hours event at the park, such as Christmas or Halloween parties At Magic Kingdom, keep in mind that most off-property hotels do NOT offer transportation beyond regular park closing hours. You will likely need to Uber or take a taxi back to your hotel when your event ends at midnight or later. Disney Resort guests are covered; their buses never stop until the event is over. The same goes for RunDisney guests, with transportation to early morning events available from all Disney resorts.

A higher level of service and security. Disney Guests expect a higher level of service when they visit a Walt Disney theme park, so why not book this guarantee at your hotel as well? There’s nothing worse than coming back to a hotel room after a long, exhausting day in the park and it’s not a clean, comfortable environment for your family. With a Disney resort, you know your room is clean and sanitized to perfection. If you ever have a problem, you can rest assured that Disney will fix it to the best of its abilities. Cast members are always on hand at reception to ensure your magical experience doesn’t end when you leave the parks. This includes providing a safe environment for children to play and for families of all ages to enjoy.

Convenience. One of the best improvements in recent years is the ability to order food on mobile directly from your My Disney Experience app! Guess what? It doesn’t stop at the parks! You can also order food from quick service outlets at your Disney Resort! Imagine waking up early and ordering your food on your mobile in the app while you get dressed, then it’s ready when you board to catch the bus to the park! Take it and go; such a time saver! The same goes for the evening; I love ordering dinner on my mobile on the way back to the resort so it’s ready when I arrive! I can take my meal and bring it directly to my room! You really appreciate these little conveniences after a long day at the park!

Organized activities for children and families. Take a day off away from the parks? Don’t worry, there’s plenty to do around your Disney resort too! Leisure entertainers around the pools will organize games, music and even arts and crafts for guests to participate in! (Some arts and crafts offerings incur an additional charge.) In the evening, families can watch movies outside on the large inflatable screen and even have smores on some evenings! The fun never has to stop on your vacation, whether it’s a day at the park or not!

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Genie+ booking priority. Perhaps the icing on the cake for Disney Resort guests is their priority reservation of paid attractions at Walt Disney World. While all guests can reserve the attractions included in Genie+ starting at 7:00 a.m. that day, only Disney Resort guests can immediately reserve these popular paid attractions! Here are the exact rules taken straight from the Walt Disney World website: Guests of a Disney Resort Hotel and other select hotels: Make your first selection at 7:00 a.m. on the day of your park visit (includes guests of the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, and Shades of Green Resort®). All other guests can make their first selection when the park opens.” It’s a huge time saver and gives Disney Resort guests the upper hand on the most popular rides, like Star Wars Rise of the Resistance and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

There are many factors to consider when selecting the best resort for your family’s vacationing needs! Let our favorite friends at Academy Travel help you find the perfect match! Kalispell chamber assesses tourist tax as part of growth study https://beverlycrestswim.com/kalispell-chamber-assesses-tourist-tax-as-part-of-growth-study/ Sun, 20 Nov 2022 07:01:27 +0000 https://beverlycrestswim.com/kalispell-chamber-assesses-tourist-tax-as-part-of-growth-study/

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce is gathering community feedback with the aim of creating a plan for “intentional growth” in the coming years, and among the issues being discussed are the benefits of a possible resort tax.

As part of the study, the chamber is carrying out an investigation and this week organized two round tables moderated by Cathy Ritter of Better Destinations, a tourism consultancy. The information gathered will be compiled into a report and Ritter will issue recommendations to the chamber based on its findings. The report is expected in mid-December.

Ritter has previously worked with other tourist destinations including Vail, Colorado and the Lake Tahoe region. Although she has yet to issue recommendations to the Kalispell Chamber, during one of the moderated discussions, Ritter said she has seen sales, resort and hotel taxes become a benefit for tourist destinations.

As an example, Ritter cited Vail’s “world-class” healthcare system, which she says is only possible in the city, which has fewer than 5,000 residents due to taxes levied on industries. related to tourism.

Under current state law, towns like Kalispell, due to its population, are not eligible for a local option tax on lodging, retail, and restaurant sales. Neighboring Whitefish and Columbia Falls each collect the 3% resort tax.

Kalispell’s only tourism-related tax on the books is a $2 per night flat rate on hotel stays, which was originally implemented in 2010.

“We are not considered a gateway community, but we are a destination in our own right,” said Lorraine Clarno, president of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce. “We would like at least to have the possibility of deciding [at the city level.]”

Clarno said that although the chamber does not yet have an official position on implementing a tourist tax, the hope is that the study will provide them with more information on the subject.

If the chamber supported such a tax, it would have to advocate at the state level to change the requirements that allow cities to implement such a tax, and it would ultimately have to be approved by a citywide referendum.

Clarno said if such a tax were added, the chamber would want the funds used in a way that benefits residents.

“These types of taxes can fund community assets that can be used year-round,” Clarno said. “If we were going in that direction, we would be looking at capital investments that would attract tourists, but would be accessible for our community. In this way, tourists pay, but we profit.

As an example of such projects, Clarno cited a ski race timing system funded by Discover Kalispell at Blacktail Mountain. The mountain needed such a system to host racing events, but now it is also used by local teams.

In commissioning the study, the chamber is seeking community input as part of planning a broad, long-term growth plan for Kalispell and the Valley.

Kalispell was recently identified as the fastest growing micropolitan city in the country, defined as one with a population between 10,000 and 50,000. Along with population growth, Kalispell is seeing an increasing reliance on tourism and an elongation of the traditional tourist season, according to participants at one of the roundtables.

“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of change and growth, and we expect that to continue even if it slows down a bit in the short term,” Clarno said. “We want to drive intentional growth in a written plan for what we want Kalispell to be.”

The chamber seeks a wide diversity of voices and opinions in the study. According to Clarno, they have received over 300 survey responses so far, with 30 roundtable participants. They also conducted 20 interviews with “key stakeholders”.

AT THE FIRST roundtable, held on November 16, voters from a variety of backgrounds were present, including architecture, education, homelessness advocacy, conservation, the arts, historic preservation and government.

Also on the agenda for discussion at the meeting were topics such as community values, what sets Kalispell and the Flathead Valley apart as a tourist destination and place to live, and how the community wants the future of the region presents itself.

Participants were asked to identify what they thought was distinctive about the region. Among the items listed were Glacier National Park, the history of the area, the remoteness of northwest Montana, nearby Native American reservations, and Kalispell’s role as the region’s trading center.

Residents have expressed feelings of concern regarding the character of the development they see in Kalispell.

Architect Luke Rumage said he wanted to live in a community with more public transport and walking and cycling options for pedestrians, and felt that Kalispell’s evolution into a “bedroom community” was an obstacle to healthy growth.

“I’ve lived in places with 700 people and 7 million people,” Rumage said. “The thing they had in common is that you can walk to work, or the grocery store, or the park, and take your dogs or kids outside safely.”

Participants were also concerned about housing shortages and preserving the historic character of downtown Kalispell.

Potter Sherry Wells described the eight-story approved parking garage planned for downtown Kalispell as “ridiculous” and wondered how it would conform to the design guidelines adopted by the city.

The chamber’s investigation is open to the public until November 22 and can be viewed online at kalispellchamber.com

The après ski scene gets an upgrade to Mount Vail This winter.

The team, the rep explained, plans to build not one but two mountain bars made of ice and snow this winter. And, like any other après-ski venue, you’ll find a well-stocked bar, plenty of seating and that lively après-ski vibe – but here your drink comes with it. 360 degree views which you can enjoy on one of Vail’s more than 300 bluebird days per year.

The former is only accessible to skiers and snowboarders, while pedestrians can reach the Eagle’s Nest bar via the Eagle Bahn gondola, which picks up guests at Lionshead Vail Square and takes them up the mountain in eight scenic minutes .

Ice bars are a throwback to the early days of Vail Mountain. And although their exact origin is open to debate, everyone seems to agree that the local ski pioneer Bill Whiteford Built Vail’s Original Ice Bar in 1965 during the mountain’s third ski season. Back then, skiers could drop by the mountain bar mid-ski, put their feet in ski boots, and have a drink under the sunny skies.
