A lakefront home outside Montreal sold for around $ 14.5 million, according to the local multiple listing service. It is the most expensive house ever sold in the province of Quebec, according to listing agent Cassandra Aurora of Sotheby’s International Realty Canada.
The five-bedroom home on more than 6 acres in the Montreal suburb of Senneville was listed for $ 15.39 million earlier this month, Ms. Aurora said. The seller was James Upton, founder of real estate marketing and lifestyle company Legacy Luxury Lifestyle Inc. Mr. Upton said he bought the home in 2017, but declined to disclose the purchase price.
Ms. Aurora also represented the buyer, whom she declined to identify.
The property has approximately 400 feet of waterfront on Lac des Deux Montagnes and a multi-level dock, Ms. Aurora said. Mr Upton collects Ferraris and the property has three “Ferrari-only garages” with parking for seven cars, Ms Aurora said. The land also includes a two-bedroom guest house, which Mr Upton used as a “car and coffee club,” Ms Aurora said. Mr Upton said he has hosted Ferrari events at the house, but declined to say how many cars he owns.
The estate also includes a private garden, a large helicopter-friendly lawn and a hot tub, she said.
Inside, the circa 1995 home spans approximately 11,500 square feet, including the basement, which features a mirrored wine cellar, movie theater, gym, and gym. games. The house has several Swarovski crystal chandeliers, five fireplaces and a music room, according to Mr. Upton’s website.
The sale broke a provincial record set earlier this month in the Montreal suburb of Westmount, where a home sold for around $ 14.31 million.
Ms. Aurora said that the current market activity in Quebec is unprecedented. “We have never had this type of market. We never even had bidding wars, ”she said. “Now the ads can’t last two days on the market. “
Luxury single-family homes in Quebec have sold on average for around $ 6.27 million so far in 2021, according to multiple listing service data provided by Sotheby’s International Realty.
Much like in the United States, added Aurora, “people are leaving the city to go to the suburbs because of Covid for more space”.
