All World Genting Resorts closed for now due to pandemic
The entire Resorts World Genting casino complex (pictured) has been temporarily closed due to national Covid-19 countermeasures in Malaysia, a post on the property’s website said.
The casino itself was temporarily closed from Monday last week (May 24) due to a so-called movement control order imposed by the country’s government as a Covid-19 countermeasure.
The site said in an announcement on Monday: “Following the government’s announcement of the total nationwide lockdown, Resorts World Genting will be temporarily closed until further notice.”
He added: “Essential resort based services such as security, bomba [fire services], public services and clinics will remain operational. “
Genting Malaysia Bhd is the promoter of Resorts World Genting, a facility located near the capital Kuala Lumpur.
Brokerage Nomura said in a recent note it was 17 percent lowering its 2021 revenue estimates for Genting Malaysia, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The institution now expects Genting Malaysia to report annual revenue of nearly MYR 5.25 billion (USD 1.26 billion), down from previous forecast of MYR 6.32 billion.
The pandemic has also impacted work on a new outdoor theme park in the complex, Genting Malaysia said last week.
The company said it was “working on” the completion “In the third quarter of 2021” from its Genting SkyWorlds outdoor theme park.
In February, company management said it was targeting the second trimester this year for the launch of the theme park
