The hype around Clubhouse has calmed down, but it may be NBA Youngboy’s fan base that is reigniting the platform’s popularity, at least on the App Store. Last week Youngboy made an appearance on Clubhouse where he joined Akademiks for an in-depth interview. He’s talked about everything from his crush on Doja Cat to his listening habits, which apparently excludes many of his peers such as Lil Baby, 21 Savage and Polo G.

The conversation had a lot of viral elements, but it appears to have resulted in an increase in Clubhouse downloads from the Apple App Store as well. As Akademiks reports, the app previously ranked 60th on the App Store before rocketing to 5th place in the days following Youngboy’s appearance. It’s an impressive feat, which shows the severity of Youngboy’s influence on youth, even though he claims to be shut out of the industry.

Youngboy’s conversation with Akademiks wasn’t his only appearance on Clubhouse, however. A few days later, he jumped into a room where 21 Savage was talking and started trolling him. Then he hosted his own bedroom when the mother of his child, Yaya Mayweather, entered the conversation. Maybe we’ll hear more about NBA Youngboy with his new presence on Clubhouse.

In the related news, the rapper was due to publish his long-awaited collaboration with Birdman, From Bayou Friday, which never happened. At this point, it would be surprising if he ever saw the light of day.
