High Point is heading to the West Coast to participate in the 2021 Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, WA. The tournament is hosted by the University of Seattle and will take place October 11-12. The tournament is named after legendary golfer Pat Lesser-Harbottle, a Seattle University alumnus and 1955 United States amateur champion.
High Point is the only school east of the Mississippi to be part of this privileged domain. The rest of the field includes Arkansas Little Rock, Boise State, Cal Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, North Dakota State, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, UC Irvine , North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah Valley, Washington (individuals) and Weber State.

Tacoma Country & Golf Club
The Tacoma Country & Golf Club was founded in 1894 and moved to its present location in 1905 on the shores of American Lake. The original architect is unknown, but John Steidel is credited with carrying out a major renovation of the layout, including the addition of three new holes in the mid-1980s. This tree-lined course will play as a par-72 and 6,020 yards. Each nine ends in a solid par 5 near the clubhouse. Tacoma Country & Golf Club has hosted a number of USGA national tournaments for female golfers, including the 1961 US Women’s Amateur, the 1984 US Senior Women’s Amateur, and the 2007 US Girls’ Junior Championship.
Format and timeline
The Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational is a two-day tournament with 36 holes played on day one and 18 holes played on day two. The game begins Monday (October 11) with a shotgun start at 8:00 am for HPU. Tuesday (October 12) will also be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
High Point competed in the first of two events in the Piedmont Triad region. High Point finished in 11e place at Bryan National Collegiate 2021.
Return to Tacoma
The Panthers participated in the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational during the shortened COVID-19 2019-2020 season. High Point finished tied for 11e place with the current Panther Sarah kahn finish tied for 10e place overall.
High Point will participate in the second home event in the Triad area this fall at the 2021 Grandover Fall Classic. The tournament will be hosted by UNCG in Greensboro, NC on November 1st and 2sd.
