The new Dallamires Lane swimming pool in Ripon is due to open next Wednesday (March 2, 2022)
The new swimming pool has 70% more water space compared to the Ripon thermal baths.
The pool will be fitted with an AngelEye pool safety system which, through the use of underwater cameras, helps lifeguards detect if swimmers are in danger or drowning.
Outside, a new car park has been installed as well as a sheltered bicycle garage, charging stations for electric cars and a new playground. The recreation center will also be renovated to provide an expanded gym, two new activity studios, a spin studio as well as meeting rooms.
To mark Harrogate Borough Council’s investment, the leisure center was renamed the Jack Laugher Leisure and Wellness Center after local Olympian Jack Laugher MBE.
Born in Harrogate and educated at Ripon Grammar School, Laugher made history at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by becoming Britain’s first Olympic diving champion alongside 3m synchro partner Chris Mears.
Councilor Stanley Lumley, Cabinet Member of Harrogate Borough Council for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and Chairman of the Board of Brimhams Active, said:
I am delighted that the new swimming pool will open next week, and hope that residents throughout the Harrogate district as well as neighboring areas will enjoy this fantastic facility for many years to come.
The addition of the new swimming pool is a major development for Ripon and the surrounding area and shows our commitment to providing modern leisure facilities to residents of the Harrogate district.
Our investment in leisure facilities does not stop at Ripon; we have exciting plans for Hydro refurbishment in Harrogate and also a new leisure and wellness center in Knaresborough.
A Willmott Dixon spokesperson said:
Our team is truly proud of what they have created; the Jack Laugher Leisure and Wellness Center will be a great addition to Ripon, supporting people’s health and wellbeing for many years to come. It is also a fantastic tribute to the success of Jack Laugher, and we hope the legacy he offers will inspire more people to use the facility to aim for Olympic success in the future.
The new swimming pool will open at 6.30am on Wednesday 2 March and will be open every day of the week (opening times can be found on the Brimhams Active website) and will offer guests a variety of different activities including swimming general and family classes, swimming lessons and Aquafit, as well as a sauna suite.
