A public swimming pool on the north side is set to undergo major renovations after being closed for nearly two years to the delight of residents.

The Sean MacDermott Street Pool in Mountjoy was closed due to broken tiles on the floor in 2019.

However, due to lack of funds, the public swimming pool remained closed for a few years.

But residents received good news today as North Inner City Independent Advisor Anthony Flynn announced funds were in place for the renovation.

He added that work will begin as new restrictions are lifted.

He announced on Facebook: “Right next to the manager’s phone, all funds are now in place for the Sean MacDermott Street Pool Renovation.

“Engineers are working on it now and the work will be done as new restrictions are lifted !!! Great news for the local community.”

Locals took to social media to express their glee as one person said, “Brilliant news! We had the best days in the baths.”

Another said: “Awesome. The kids will be thrilled when it opens again.”

A third person added: “Well done, so few amenities in the area, great that you were able to move this one forward.”
