VESTAL, NY – The Binghamton swim and dive teams played in their second meet in as many days, holding their senior meet against Cornell Sunday afternoon at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The Big Red swept the team’s results by recording a 145-94 win for the women as well as a 153-90 triumph for the men.
“Being able to have two meets this weekend and swim tired is really good preparation for the conference meet in two weeks,” the head coach said. jerry cummiskey. “We are going to compete four days in a row and we have to take care of ourselves and it was a good simulation. We played against a very good team from Cornell and I am proud of the way we competed today”,
The Bearcats set a pool record in the men’s 400 medley relay with a time of 3:20.64. The previous mark of 3:26.04 was set by the Bearcats in 2010. Keegan Chatham and Elie Lanfearsecond Liam Murphy and senior Ryan board were part of the record quartet.
Board won the men’s 100m breaststroke (55.89) while Lanfear won the 50m freestyle (21.33). Bearcats’ other men’s event winner was a sophomore George Kiphidzewho won the 200 freestyle (1:42.06).
In the meeting of women, second year Marley Zimmerman won the 200 freestyle (1:56.59) and anchored first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.13). Other members of the 200 freestyle relay team included sophomores Molly Greeley and Madison Hoover as well as junior Alyssa Martin.
Zimmerman has now won six individual events in the last three double encounters. She won the 200 freestyle in all three meets.
The other event winner for Binghamton on the women’s side was a sophomore Courtney Moane, who took the honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.43). Moane ended the weekend with three individual wins in the two encounters.
Prior to the meeting, Binghamton held its annual Senior Day ceremony. This year, the main winners included the Board of Directors, Christopher Egan, Benjamin Beldner, Brian Harding, Nathan DeGuzman, Belen Marriaga, Amanda McGraw and Katie Schultz.
Binghamton is now gearing up for the America East Championships, which will be held Feb. 10-13 and will be hosted by WPI.
