This Colorado resort is bringing back its vintage ice cream bar for next ski season

And it opens on November 11.

The après ski scene gets an upgrade to Mount Vail This winter.

A representative from the famed Colorado ski resort said Travel + Leisure the mountain brings back a vintage crush in honor of the ski area’s 60th anniversary. The team, the rep explained, plans to build not one but two mountain bars made of ice and snow this winter. And, like any other après-ski venue, you’ll find a well-stocked bar, plenty of seating and that lively après-ski vibe – but here your drink comes with it. 360 degree views which you can enjoy on one of Vail’s more than 300 bluebird days per year.

The vintage ice bars will be erected at Wildwood, at an elevation of 10,981 feet, and at Eagle’s Nest, at 10,350 feet. The former is only accessible to skiers and snowboarders, while pedestrians can reach the Eagle’s Nest bar via the Eagle Bahn gondola, which picks up guests at Lionshead Vail Square and takes them up the mountain in eight scenic minutes .

Ice bars are a throwback to the early days of Vail Mountain. And although their exact origin is open to debate, everyone seems to agree that the local ski pioneer Bill Whiteford Built Vail’s Original Ice Bar in 1965 during the mountain’s third ski season. Back then, skiers could drop by the mountain bar mid-ski, put their feet in ski boots, and have a drink under the sunny skies.

Almost 60 years later, not much has changed. Bartenders will hand out drinks, and there will be a small menu of food on hand – though we bet the offerings are a step up from what was on tap in the 60s. This winter, you You can enjoy pizzas, corned beef, pastrami, milkshakes and pancakes. The ice bar will also be stocked with two limited-edition bourbons created especially for Vail Mountain’s anniversary by the local distillery, 10th mountain whiskey.

In addition to food, exclusive drinks and views, there will be music and plenty of on-snow seating, providing the perfect place to rest up midday or meet friends for an after-ski drink. Those looking for a little more privacy can reserve one of Vail Mountains’ four snow bungalows, which will be located near Eagle’s Nest Ice Bar in the Igloo Village.

Vail’s ice bars and snow bungalows will open during the winter ski season, which is scheduled to run from November 11, 2022 through April 24, 2023. Just be sure to get your groceries on the 5,300 acres of terrain. Vail, including the station’s seven iconic Back Bowls, before visit the bar.
